PM Modi Stresses on the Importance of Triple Talaq Law in Rajasthan

Rajasthan, India – Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his recent address in Rajasthan, underscored the significance of the triple talaq law for the empowerment of Muslim women in India.

“Triple talaq was a threat to the lives of my Muslim mothers and sisters,” PM Modi stated, highlighting the detrimental effects of the practice. He further added, “The law on triple talaq is helping our Muslim sisters.”

Triple talaq, an instant divorce practice in some Islamic sects, allows a man to divorce his wife by simply uttering ‘talaq’ three times. This practice has been widely criticized for its discriminatory impact on women.

PM Modi emphasized that the law has not only offered protection to women who were at risk due to this practice but has also ensured the safety of every Muslim family. “Modi has not only protected you but Modi has protected every Muslim family,” he proclaimed.

The law criminalizing triple talaq was enacted by the Indian Parliament in July 2019, making it a punishable offense. This historic legislation was applauded as a significant advancement towards gender equality and the safeguarding of women’s rights.

PM Modi’s remarks are particularly relevant in the context of ongoing national dialogues around women’s rights and safety. His words underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring the protection of women’s rights, irrespective of their religious beliefs.

The Prime Minister’s emphasis on the positive repercussions of the triple talaq law underscores the government’s sustained efforts to promote gender equality and empower women in the country.
