Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated, dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over ₹32,000 crore in Jammu and Kashmir. The projects relate to several sectors including health, education, rail, road, aviation, petroleum, and civic infrastructure among others.
The Prime Minister also distributed appointment orders to about 1500 new Government recruits of Jammu and Kashmir. He also interacted with beneficiaries of various government schemes as part of the ‘Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu’ program.
Some of the major projects launched by the Prime Minister are:
- The campuses of several important education institutes like IIT Bhilai, IIT Tirupati, IIITDM Kurnool, IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Jammu, IIM Visakhapatnam and Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) Kanpur.
- The AIIMS Jammu, which will provide tertiary healthcare facilities to the people of the region and also serve as a teaching hospital.
- The new terminal building of Jammu Airport, which will enhance the passenger capacity and provide better amenities to the travellers.
- The Common User Facility Petroleum depot at Jammu, which will ensure uninterrupted supply of petroleum products to the region and also create employment opportunities.
- Several significant road and rail connectivity projects in Jammu and Kashmir, such as the Jammu-Akhnoor-Poonch road, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link, and the Katra-Delhi Express Road Corridor.
- Several projects for strengthening the civic and urban infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir, such as the Jammu Ring Road, the Jammu Smart City project, the Jammu Sewerage project, the Jammu Water Supply project, and the Jammu Solid Waste Management project.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said that today’s initiatives will propel holistic development in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the government is committed to ensure a Viksit Jammu Kashmir, which is based on the mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas.
He said that the government is focussed on the poor, farmers, youth and Nari Shakti of Jammu and Kashmir and is providing them with various schemes and opportunities for their welfare and empowerment.
He also said that the abrogation of Article 370, which was the biggest hurdle in the development of Jammu and Kashmir, has paved the way for a new Jammu Kashmir, which is attracting the attention and investment of the world.
He urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to participate in the upcoming District Development Council elections and elect their representatives who will work for their development and aspirations.
He also appealed to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to shun violence and embrace peace and progress. He said that the government is ready to support them in every way possible to realise their dreams and potential.
He concluded his speech by thanking the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their love and support and assured them that the government will continue to work for their welfare and prosperity.
