Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address in the Rajya Sabha today highlighted the ongoing efforts and initiatives undertaken by the government to address the multifaceted challenges faced by Manipur. Emphasizing a holistic approach towards restoring peace and fostering development in the northeastern state, PM Modi provided updates on the government’s strategies and achievements in managing the current situation.
Addressing the Rajya Sabha, PM Modi reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring normalcy in Manipur. “The Central and State governments are engaged in continuous dialogue with all stakeholders to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur,” he affirmed. He underscored the significant reduction in incidents of violence, attributing it to proactive measures and collaborative efforts between the authorities and local communities.
PM Modi highlighted the operational interventions undertaken by the Union government, including the registration of over 11,000 FIRs and the arrest of more than 500 individuals linked to recent acts of violence in Manipur. These steps, he asserted, are crucial in upholding the rule of law and maintaining public order across the state.
In response to the challenges posed by natural calamities, PM Modi assured comprehensive support to Manipur in managing the flood situation. “The Central government is extending all necessary assistance to tackle the flood situation in Manipur,” he stated, noting the deployment of two teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to aid in rescue and relief operations.
PM Modi also lauded the Union Home Minister’s extended stay in Manipur to oversee relief efforts firsthand, underscoring the government’s proactive stance in addressing the state’s immediate needs and ensuring effective governance.
Turning to historical context, PM Modi criticized the Congress party’s frequent imposition of President’s rule in Manipur, contrasting it with the current administration’s efforts to empower local governance and uphold democratic values in the state. “Congress had imposed President’s rule in Manipur 10 times,” he remarked, highlighting the shift towards participatory governance and inclusive development initiatives under the present government.
In concluding remarks, PM Modi reiterated his government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and progress of Manipur. He expressed confidence in the collective efforts of the Central and State governments, as well as the resilience and determination of the people of Manipur, in overcoming challenges and achieving sustainable growth and prosperity.
