Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço of Angola addressed the media today during a joint press conference held at Hyderabad House, underscoring their commitment to deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The Angolan President’s visit marks a significant diplomatic milestone — his first state visit to India and the first by an Angolan head of state in 38 years.
Welcoming President Lourenço, PM Modi said, “This visit is historic and marks a new chapter in India–Angola relations. We discussed cooperation in energy, defence, trade, and agriculture. Angola is an important partner in our engagement with Africa.”
President Lourenço expressed gratitude for the warm reception, stating, “We are very thankful for the friendly and hospitable manner in which we were received yesterday by the people of India. This visit is an important one for Angola, to strengthen bonds of friendship and cooperation.”
Both leaders announced plans to enhance collaboration in oil and gas, mineral resources, education, and technology transfer, while also affirming their shared commitment to South-South cooperation and a multipolar global order.
