State-owned Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) has inked initial pacts worth Rs 500 crore with key state bodies and industry partners at the India Energy Week 2024, to formulate a framework for longstanding collaboration in key areas of energy efficiency.
Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh (LAHDC), and Vidhya Pratishthan have partnered with EESL, the company said in a statement on Friday. The MoUs with the two entities, valued at Rs 300 crore and Rs 200 crore, respectively, focus on crucial aspects of energy efficiency, including lighting, clean cooking, space heating, renewables, e-mobility, cooling, and consultancy.
The MoU with LAHDC aims to implement various energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in the Ladakh region, such as LED street lighting, domestic lighting, solar rooftops, solar water heaters, electric vehicles, and smart meters. The MoU also envisages the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in Leh, which will serve as a hub for innovation, research, and capacity building in the sector.
The MoU with Vidhya Pratishthan, a charitable trust engaged in education and social welfare activities, intends to promote energy efficiency and conservation measures in the educational institutions run by the trust in Maharashtra. The MoU covers the installation of energy-efficient appliances, solar rooftop systems, smart metering, and energy audits in the campuses. The MoU also includes the provision of training and awareness programs for students and staff on energy efficiency and renewable energy.
EESL’s Managing Director Rajat Kumar Sud said, “These MoUs reflect our commitment to work with diverse stakeholders to create a market for energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions in India. We are confident that these partnerships will help us in achieving our vision of a sustainable and energy-secure future for the country.”
