Lok Sabha Elections in Ladakh Scheduled for May 20

The Election Commission announced on Saturday that the Lok Sabha elections in Ladakh will be held in a single phase on May 20. This marks a significant milestone in the region’s political history as it is the first time Ladakh will independently witness a poll for a single seat.

Previously, Ladakh was a constituency under Jammu and Kashmir. However, the upcoming elections will see the region stepping out of J&K’s political shadow and conducting its own independent polling.

The last Lok Sabha elections in 2019 saw a fierce competition. Jamyang Tsering Namgyal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious by securing 33.94% of the votes polled. He won against the independent candidate, Sajjad Hussain, who managed to garner 25.30% of the votes polled.

The upcoming elections are being keenly watched by political analysts and citizens alike, given the region’s strategic importance and the changing political landscape of the country. As Ladakh gears up for this historic moment, the entire nation waits in anticipation for the outcome of the polls.
