25 Years of Kargil Vijay Diwas: Gen Ved Prakash Malik Reflects on Operation Vijay

Kargil, Ladakh – As the nation commemorates the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, General Ved Prakash Malik (Retd.), Chief of Army Staff during the Kargil War, has shared poignant reflections on the heroic sacrifices and steadfast determination displayed by Indian soldiers during Operation Vijay.

General Ved Prakash Malik, speaking on the solemn occasion, expressed his foremost duty to pay homage to the officers and soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice defending the nation’s sovereignty. “My primary duty is to pay homage to all the officers and soldiers who were killed during Operation Vijay,” he stated, acknowledging the bravery and resilience of the armed forces in the face of adversity.

Reflecting on the valor displayed by Indian jawans and their leaders during the Kargil War, General Malik expressed pride in their unwavering commitment. “One is also very proud of how our jawans and their leaders fought,” he remarked, highlighting the indomitable spirit and leadership that characterized the military operations in the challenging terrain of Kargil.

General Malik also noted the overwhelming support and respect shown by the families of fallen soldiers, who gathered in large numbers. “It’s good to meet the next of kin who have come in very large numbers,” he acknowledged, underscoring the solidarity and reverence that unite the nation in honoring its heroes.

Speaking about the touching gestures of support from citizens during the war, General Malik recalled how letters and sweets sent to the soldiers boosted their morale amidst the hardships. “They have collected letters from all over India. I am sure when the jawans read those letters, their morale will be boosted,” he affirmed, highlighting the enduring bond between the armed forces and the people they protect.

Looking ahead to the commemorative events, General Malik expressed gratitude for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to mark the silver jubilee of Kargil Vijay Diwas. “I am glad that the Prime Minister is coming tomorrow on the silver jubilee because his presence and paying homage to all the soldiers who got killed means a lot to the armed forces and the nation,” he stated, emphasizing the significance of national leadership in honoring the sacrifices of the armed forces.

The 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas serves as a poignant reminder of the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of Indian soldiers who defended the nation’s borders with unwavering determination.
